Founded by Michelle Kruschke, a woman service-connected disabled Army veteran.
Michelle has had reptile pets as a child and adult. In 2019, Michelle took in a ball python from a chain pet store as a hospice case. The snake had some deformed ribs that made it difficult for the animal to eat. Michelle agreed to take him in to give him a family in his final days. Despite the odds. Will (the ball python) overcame his deformity and is a robust adult ball python with attitude. (Get it? Will he live? Will he eat? Will he poop on the rug?)
Michelle found that caring for Will helped her deal with her own disabilities and health issues. She decided to add to her reptile family in 2020. After looking into a variety of reptile species, Michelle, fell in love with the resting bitch faces of skinks. She found that many reptile species were mainly wild-caught imports. Imports often are stressed, malnourished, dehydrated, and completely unsociable. Wild populations are declining into extinction in many parts of the world.
Finding the therapeutic value of reptile ownership, the need for captive bred reptiles in the pet industry, and a desperate need for education about these unique and essential members of our environment, Michelle created ABC Reptile Companions, LLC. We have educational programs that bring live reptiles to your location for fun and interaction. In 2023, we will begin breeding tegus, fire skinks, and Indonesian Blue-tongued skinks.
